Resources: Tools and Products That Help Me Be a Better Leader: Outsourcing

Resources

Let’s Chat About Leadership…

This blog series appears on Tuesdays, and focuses on resources that I use as I pace my ability to continually strive for my greatest effectiveness. Leaders get things done. In order to accomplish this objective, it’s important to have the necessary skills and systems in place. I have tried many things over many years and have settled on what’s simple, reliable, and consistent.

Each resource will appear under one or more of my four leadership principles:
  1. Foundations: Clarity of purpose and outcomes, and equipping oneself for excellence;
  2. Relationships: Building and maintaining healthy and effective relationships;
  3. Systems: Tools and processes for leading and empowering transformation; and
  4. Balance: Managing multiple priorities and managing self.

Each resource I blog about is one I have tested and used personally. I do not make money on these referrals unless specifically stated in the post.*

Outsourcing to Free-Up Time and Be More Productive

Problem Solving: Getting More Done and Freeing Up a Leader’s Time

You know, in today’s business environment, social media is becoming an ever more-important presence. Quite frankly, no business can ignore it, from very small organizations to enterprise conglomerates. Having a strong presence in social media can go a long way toward building your brand and your business. If you’re like me and your primary customer is either a business owner or a business service provider, then there’s not a better social media platform than LinkedIn.

This is where business executives are hanging out. LinkedIn boasts the highest income-per-capita users amongst all social media demographics. And this is a spot where company executives communicate with each other. It was an area that I’ve always been aware of, but never really executed because I didn’t have the time.

And then one day, a friend of mine (Robert Fox from People Source International) was talking to me. He told me, “Hugh, you need to be on LinkedIn, really promoting your business appropriately, and our company can do that for you.” At the time, I really didn’t understand how they were going to be able to integrate my messaging and come out with a legitimate sounding voice that reflected my views. Well, I have to tell you, I was pleasantly surprised; not only are the scripts reflective of my voice, his team helped me put them all together.

I was blown away by the types of results People Source International put together for our group. In fact, the results were so overwhelming that I told him he needed to slow things down, because I couldn’t keep up with his team. The secret sauce is his team put together a porthole where I could look at all the messages that were coming in and my People Source International team would put their response. I then would okay or update the message. These guys were actually using my own words, protecting both my brand and my image, because all the verbiage that was being sent out was pre-approved scripts from me.

They spend hours each day running my LinkedIn account. And it costs about the same as that McDonald’s Big Mac meal would cost me. Not only is the value there, but the quality is superior. They generate anywhere from 2 to 5 leads a day for me now. I couldn’t be happier with the results. This is an example of how a company is executing something more effectively than I could, not only because their team members are experts in LinkedIn, but they’re executing at a price way below my pay-grade. This is a perfect example of how you can bring in somebody who has expertise outside of your business to help your business grow. I’m not interested in the individual messages that they’re sending out to people, I’m interested in the results they’re getting me. I have the assurance that these messages are being sent out in my voice, because I have already approved them. What a great service, one that I highly recommend.
